An ‘art after hours’ reception will be held at the Arkansas Craft Gallery from 5 to 7 pm the evening of June 20, 2012 for craftartisans Skip and Racheal Mathews. Skip and Racheal are known for pioneering their unusual technique for “painting copper with fire” and will beoffering a workshop by that name at the Arkansas Craft School the week of June18 – 22. Skip developed the flame painting technique in 1981, and hassince become known as the “father of flame painting.” This technique produces beautiful rainbow-hued effects on the surface of copper objects which then become wall ornaments, bowls, vases or jewelry.
Skip and Racheal’s copper work will be on exhibit at the Arkansas Craft Gallery, 104 E. Main St.starting the evening of June 20 and will be available through Sunday June 24 only. Regulargallery hours are Thursday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 1– 4 pm. For this very special exhibition and reception, the Gallerywill be open from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday June 20.
