This month there are many new classes being offered at the Ozark Folk Center during the two session of Folk School. During the first 3- day session, held March 17-19, 2011 you’ll find not only blacksmithing and corn shuck doll making among the listing but also new classes like Artisan Cheese making.
New and unique cheeses are cropping up in recipes and on grocery store shelves. Many of these artisan cheeses have exotic names and flavors. Wouldn’t you like to know how to make some of these cheeses yourself?
Join award-winning author, cheese maker and teacher Janet Hurst to learn how to make your own cheeses during the Ozark Folk Center’s Folk School March 17-19, 2011. The registration deadline for this class is March 4 at 5:00 p.m. The cost of this class is $270. There is a $45 non-refundable registration fee due when you sign up and the remaining $225 is due at the beginning of class.
Janet studied the science of cheese making in Canada at the University of Guelph and the Vermont Institute for artisan cheese at the University of Vermont. She spent time as the headmaster for a 300 head goat dairy and was the cheese maker for a large dairy operation. She has spent time studying dairy operations and cheese making in Israel and now makes her home near Hermann, Missouri. Janet has written articles for Dairy Goat Journal, Mary Jane’s Farm, Mother Earth News and other national publications. Her book “Homemade Cheese”, published by Voyager Press, will be available for sale during her class.
The second session of Ozark Folk School is March 21-25, 2011. There is a Claw Camp for banjo players during this session, evening classes in yarn spinning, knife making, woodcarving and many others during this fun spring break chance to learn, relax and create.
