Jackson Browne records "Running On Empty" amid a tour on August 27, 1977. The single hit the top of the charts while the album of the same title became his biggest commercial success. The album was nominated for a pair of grammy awards losing Album Of The Year to the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack and Pop Male Vocalist to Barry Manilow. The 64-year old was born Clyde Jackson Browne in Germany while his father was stationed there in the U.S. military. Browne was an early member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band joining in Greenwich Village in 1966. Still recording and touring, he has a few dates remaining on his current acoustic trek.
