The song relates the true story of the December 1971 fire that destroyed the Montreux Casino in Switzerland during a Frank Zappa concert. Released on their "Machine Head" album, "Smoke On The Water" is ranked in Rolling Stone magazine's "500 Greatest Songs Of All Time" and has been recognized as one of the greatest guitar riffs by both Total Guitar and Q magazines. Deep Purple formed in 1968 and has sold over 100 million albums across the globe. The band unveiled their latest studio album "Now What?!" earier this summer.
