Rock legend Jerry Garcia suffers a fatal heart attack on August 9, 1995 during a stint at a substance abuse treatment center in California. The 53-year old musician was inducted just a year earlier into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Garcia, along with Bob Weir, Ron McKernan, Phil Lesh and Bill Kreutzmann, founded the Grateful Dead in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. The Dead have sold more than 35 million albums across the globe. Garcia's ashes were scattered in the Ganges River in India and San Francisco Bay.
