Description: The Calico Rock Museum announces the grand opening of its Native American Exhibit “The Birth of the Ozarks” at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8th. The museum and the Calico Rock Artisans Cooperative share a building on Main Street (Highway 5 at the White River Bridge). Special “Native American Day” events include an 1800’s Mountain Man Rendezvous encampment and performances by Ron Ward and the Native American Dancers. At 3:00 p.m. a “Walk of Remembrance” honors those that traveled the “Trail of Tears.” In 1838, the Benge Route of the Trail of Tears crossed a few miles north of Calico Rock.
